Students in the Department of Fine and Performing 艺术s are provided with both a solid theoretical understanding of their field of study as well as numerous opportunities for hands-on experience. Programming in visual and performing arts allows students to learn how to function successfully as a professional, to develop sensitivity to the creative processes of the arts, to master the technical skills of their discipline, and to prepare for continuing growth whether through advanced study or employment.
Majors and non-majors alike are eligible and encouraged to participate in performance groups and student organizations.
The department serves as a center for cultural activity and enrichment for the University and surrounding communities. 艺术, music, and theatrical events are varied and plentiful throughout the academic year.

Dr. Debra Brown, associate professor of music, was named Northwest Missouri State University’s recipient of the 2024 Governor's Award for Excellence in Education. Brown has taught courses related to American popular music, the intersection of arts, and music methods in elementary and secondary schools.
Dr. Karen Britt, assistant professor of art history at Northwest Missouri State University, was recently featured in an issue of National Geographic’s “100 Wonders of the World” for her work with the Huqoq mosaics.
John Bell, director of bands and orchestra and artist-in-residence at Northwest Missouri State University, was honored on January 23, at the 81st annual In-service Conference in Tan-Tar-A with the Missouri 音乐 Educators Association (MMEA) Outstanding Educator Award.
